.577” Thomas Turner, Fisher street, Birmingham volunteer MkIII three band Snider service rifle. Plain Pattern 1853 swivel link lock signed to the front of the cupped hammer THOMAS TURNER FISHER STREET BIRMINGHAM. Walnut stock with regulation pattern brass furniture is stamped to the right side of the butt with a Thomas Turner Birmingham Trade Mark roundel with square section slotted jag head clearing rod to the underside. Three groove rifled barrel retained by Baddeley snag free bands is fitted with a ladder rear sight graduated to 900 yards and is struck with Birmingham Victorian commercial proof marks and T TURNER to the front of the sight next to 210. The MkIII locking shoe is struck with WD Broad Arrow marks with Birmingham proof and Crowned GV inspection stamps. Made to the regulation military MkIII pattern by Turners who were an ordnance contractor for sale to a volunteer soldier or target shooter of the mid Victorian age. In good condition with good bore having a few marks towards the muzzle, nice sharp stock and much blue finish to the metalwork. A good Snider by one of the best of the Birmingham makers with the desirable MkIII locking breech.
