A good and interesting .75” smooth bore percussion musket of East India Co. type by Manton and Co. of London and Calcutta. Plain lock with Bunn nut retained hammer is signed to the front MANTON & Co. LONDON & CALCUTTA. Walnut stock with military pattern brass furniture including a spurred trigger guard, three rammer pipes and a serpentine side plate. Nose cap with East India type F pattern bayonet catch and sling swivels with original leather Slade Wallace pattern military sling. The butt plate tang and trigger guards spur engraved with Farsi unit markings for volunteer issue in India where the similarity to EIC arms and so the easy availability of spares would have made this an ideal arm for its original owner. Pin retained 39” long smooth bore barrel with standing rear sight and block front is struck to the rear left with Victorian Birmingham commercial proof marks. Concave head rammer with square section rod to the front to ft onto and EIC type sergeants tool. An interesting commercial musket by a well known gunsmiths of the 1840’s in the style of the East India Company F pattern military issue musket for the use of a volunteer soldier or as an estate or business guard gun using the readily available military musket cartridges of the day. In good condition with good mechanics and a good bore fitted with a good original sling. A nice Victorian commercial military musket of EIC pattern by the famous London and Calcutta company of Manton.
