Silver plated .41" RF London Proofed Colt No3 Thuer derringer. Silver plated brass frame with well figured walnut grips has spurred hammer to the rear and is stamped to the left side with Colts Rampant Stallion trade mark next to 41 CAL. Silver plated barrel rifled with seven grooves is struck to the underside with London Victorian proof marks and is signed to the top -COLT-. A very effective concealable little self defence arm the Colt derringers were very popular and widely used arms being made for many years. This London proofed example made in the US and brought into the UK by Colts London agency. Like all early Colts these had silver plated straight onto the brass and steel of the pistol before it was realised the metal needed to be copper plated before being silvered, as a result of which the silver plate soon flaked off leaving most today with little or no finish. In good condition with good bore and mechanics, nice well figured sharp grips and most original silver plate to the barrel and about 50% to the frame. A good example of a London Agency Thuer with a lot of silver plate left for one of these.
