A Canadian manufactured WW2 Ordnance issue No4 MkII Pig Sticker bayonet to fit the No4 service rifle by Long Branch in Vanden Plas scabbard. The boss stamped to the left side No4 MkII over the combined LB mark of the Long Branch Government Ordnance factory. In its black painted No4 Mk1 steel scabbard stamped S287 for manufacture by Vanden Plas engineering of Kingsbury Road London, the famous pre war coach builders to the likes of Rolls Royce and Daimler who were set to scabbard making during the war years. Regulation British WW2 issue bayonet, the No4 was little more than a screw driver blade welded onto a boss that fitted over the barrel of the rifle, but it worked well enough although unlike the more conventional knife bayonets it could not be used as a fighting knife. The Long Branch Ordnance factory in Canada manufactured No4 bayonets for issue to both Canadian and British regiments during the war seeing service in all the major theatres of the war. In good condition with much original blue to the boss with working catch in a nice scabbard with nearly all its original paint.
