£135

An Ordnance issue Pattern 1859 socket bayonet to fit the Pattern 1859 Indian issue smooth bore .65” musket. Blued socket with locking ring. Tricorn blade is struck to the top rear with a Broad Arrow over WD and a Crowned E Enfield Factory inspection stamp. Made to the same design as the British army Pattern 1853 rifle bayonet but with an enlarged diameter muzzle ring to fit the larger and heavier barrel of the Indian army smooth bore muskets issued to Indian troops after the mutiny to ensure British troops in India would have superior weapons in the event of another uprising. In good condition with much blue finish to the socket and a well marked clean blade. A nice example of the Patt 59 bayonet (no scabbard).
