A scarce Ordnance issue No9 Mk1 bayonet to fit the No4 rifle in its scabbard manufactured at the Poole Ordnance factory. Fullered Bowie pattern blade fitted to a standard boss stamped to the top with P inside a circular motif for manufacture at the Poole Ordnance Factory next to manufacture date of 194? (possibly 1949 but feint) with AW stamped to the base of the blade at the rear. In its black painted regulation steel scabbard with a gun metal throat and frog stud to the front. With its correct issue pattern broad arrow marked ordnance issue canvas frog. Designed to replace the ultra cheap war time pig sticker bayonets with their screw driver blades the No9 combined the blade of the expensive No7 bayonet with the boss of the war time pig sticker to make a very efficient but cost effective bayonet for the post war British army. An effective bayonet fitted to the rifle it was however like the pig sticker before it not usable as a fighting knife lacking a grip. In good condition with good blade and scabbard, these are now becoming hard to find in good condition.
