British Military issue Pattern 1859 socket bayonet in a later brass mounted black leather scabbard. Fullered tricorn blade with ordnance Broad Arrow WD ownership mark over a feint Crown E Enfield inspection stamp. Blued socket with rotating locking ring to fit the Indian army issue smooth bore Pattern 1859 musket, based on the rifled Pattern 1853 arm issued to British Troops with punch marked issue number 3 to the left side. In a later WD Broad Arrow marked brass mounted black leather scabbard, probably an Indian army locally manufactured replacement? The .65” smooth bore Pattern 1859 musket was fitted with a heavier barrel than the Pattern 1853 rifle, after earlier Pattern 1858 muskets with standard weight barrels proved to be prone to bending after they had been bored to .65”, this required the socket of the bayonet to be made of larger diameter than the rifle bayonet of the same design. In good condition with good blade and much blue finish to the socket in a good replacement scabbard. A good example of a rare British Issue bayonet for the use of native troops serving on the sub-continent at a good price.
