A rare Ordnance issue Yataghan bayonet by Enfield to fit the Pattern 1860/61 Enfield Whitworth trials rifle. Hilt with rivet retained press chequered leather grips, the pommel with round socket to accept the unique profile of the Enfield Whitworths bayonet boss. Release catch to the rear left and an Enfield military inspection stamp to the tang. Fullered yataghan blade with Enfield E Crown 33 Ordnance inspection mark to the right side and Crown VR to the left. In its steel mounted black leather scabbard with frog stud to the front of the locket. A limited issue troop trials rifle the Pattern 1860 & 61 Whitworth rifles were very accurate but too reliant on regular cleaning to be a successful military weapon and only around 8200 were ever made. Being intended for issue to the rifle regiments of the army they were each equipped with a Yataghan sword bayonet of this unique pattern. In good condition with nice sharp press chequered leather grips, good blade and a nice scabbard with all intact stitching. A good and rare Ordnance issue bayonet in its original scabbard.
