WW2 Indian army issue MkII SMLE bayonet by Metal Industries Lahore dated 1944. Hilt with wooden grip scales has release catch to the rear left and is struck SA 47 to the left of the pommel. MkII unfullered blade with false edge to the tip is stamped to the left side MKII 43 M.I.L. for manufacture in1943 by Metal Industries Lahore. In its regulation steel mounted shortened pattern 1907 leather scabbard with Indian manufacture markings to the rear. One of a series of shorter bayonets made for issue to the Indian army who continued to use the SMLE throughout the second world war and into the 1960s they were a handier and more usable weapon than the WW1 issue ’07 bayonet both when fitted to the rifle and when used as a fighting knife. This example being manufactured at the famous India Army ordnance factory at Lahore which would later become one of the first government arms factories in Pakistan after partition. In very good condition with good grips and blade with much blue finish in a good scabbard with all intact stitching. A nice example of a WW2 issue Indian army bayonet.
