Mk1 2nd type Ordnance issue Pattern 1888 bayonet to fit the Long Lee rifle in its scabbard by Wilkinson’s of London marked to the Royal Garrison Artillery. Grip with rivet retained walnut scales and clearing hole to the rear of the second rivet. The pommel stamped 96 RGA for issue to the Royal Garrison Artillery troops who manned the guns of the forts sited around the empire to defend major cities and naval bases etc. Double edged spear point blade stamped to the right side with Broad Arrow over WD and a military inspectors mark. The left side stamped WILKINSON LONDON next to an 1890 manufacture date and various military inspection stamps. In its correct black leather steel mounted scabbard. Standard issue British bayonet for the Long Lee Metford and Enfield rifles the Pattern 1888 was an effective weapon as a bayonet fitted to the rifle or when used in its own right as a fighting knife. In good condition with good clean blade, working catch and scabbard with all stitching intact.
