Brazilian issue model 1908 sword bayonet by WKC of Solingen Germany.

A fine Brazilian issue model 1908 sword bayonet to fit the 7mm Brazilian issue Mauser service rifle by WKC of Solingen Germany. Hilt with release catch to the rear right is fitted with rivet retained wooden scales and has a cross guard with hook quillon to the underside. Single edged spear point fullered blade stamped to the left side WEYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM & Cie SOLINGEN. The cross guard serial numbered 029. In its issue brass mounted leather scabbard with frog stud to the rear stamped with serial number 029. Manufactured for the Brazilians by WKC to fit the 7mm Mauser G98 type service rifles also supplied by the German arms industry in the year leading up to the Great War. A well designed weapon with hook quillon to the cross guard and well balanced blade the 1908 was very effective both when fitted to the rifle and when used as a fighting knife in its own right.  In fine condition with good clean blade, working catch and in a nice scabbard with all intact stitching. An interesting Mauser bayonet issued a major South American army during the period of the Great War with the last of the pattern being delivered in 1914 as the German arms industry diverted all production to support the German army in the trenches.
