Spanish M1943 bayonet to fit the 8mm M1943 short rifle. Blued hilt with chequered walnut bolt retained grip scales has cross guard with barrel loop to the top and round ended quillon to the lower half. Fullered ‘Bolo’ pattern blade is engraved faintly to the left side TOLEDO for production at the Fábrica de armas de Toledo (Toledo Arms Factory). The right side struck with serial number over T inspection stamp. In its correct pattern steel scabbard with blued finish struck with issue number 4329 I. Adopted by the Spanish army with the Mauser M1943 short rifles these bayonets have unique bolo pattern blades which while looking impressive are in fact not as efficient a cutting shape as a conventional parallel cutting edge. They were none the less quite effective both as a bayonet and when used as a fighting knife, however the M1943 was soon replaced in Spanish army service with the M1944 standard model Mauser issued with a copy of the regulation German K98 bayonet making these M43’s quite rare today. In good condition with nice clean blade, good sharply chequered grips with no splits or cracks and a nice regulation scabbard. A good example of a scarce European bayonet from the WW2 period.
