WW2 German Wehrmacht issue K98 bayonet in matching numbers scabbard by Karl Eickhorn of Solingen dated 1942. Grip with bolt retained smooth wooden scales has release button to the right side of the pommel and is struck with two German Waffenamt inspection marks to the left. Deep blue / black, fullered single edged blade is struck to the left side with cof 42 for manufacture in 1942 by the famous Solingen cutlers Karl Eickhorn and to the right with serial number 2356 W. In its regulation issue steel scabbard serial numbered to the bayonet, stamped to the front cof 42 and to the rear above the frog stud 2356 W. Regulation issue bayonet to fit the WW2 German K98 service rifle these were effective arms both when fitted to the rifle or when used as a fighting knife and saw wide service all over the world as well as on all fronts of the war by the German army from the first campaign in Poland to the fall of Berlin. Made in mid war (1942) this example would have seen service for nearly 4 years and could have been used on any of the fronts in the east against the Russians or in the west opposing allied forces. Most of the early war bayonets like this lost their scabbards or had them swapped in service making matching numbers weapons very scarce today. In good condition with nice clean blued blade, good grip scales and a nice matching numbers scabbard retaining much blue finish, some salt and pepper staining to the rear of the scabbard. A nice example of a scarce matching numbers WW2 German army regulation issue bayonet.
