Japanese Arisaka type 30 bayonet in scabbard. Hilt with bolt retained wooden grip scales has release button to the rear left of the pommel and a hooked quillon to the bottom of the cross guard, designed to allow the user to trap and break the blade of an enemy when bayonet fighting. Single edged fullered blade is struck to the right side with the four ring trade mark of the Kokura Arsenal in Tokyo. In its issue steel scabbard with frog loop to the rear. Issued from 1897 until the end of WW2 the type 30 was a good and reliable weapon, although late models did suffer quality control problems as Japanese industry began to collapse in the later stages of the war. The British adopted several features of the type 30 when designing the 1907 bayonet for the SMLE rifle including the hooked quillon, although that refinement was dropped by the British after WW1 began. In good condition with very good blade. In its issue steel scabbard, the rear of the scabbard and right side of the hilt pitted and cleaned, presumably after the bayonet was stored for some period on a damp surface to one side. A nice scarce WW2 issue type 30 bayonet with a good clean blade.
