A German 1930’s WW2 / Nazi era long dress bayonet in scabbard with 9 ¾” blade by Emil Voos of Solingen. Reduced size K98 pattern plated hilt with finely chequered Bakelite / plastic grip scales has working spring release catch to the rear right. Plated single edged fullered blade is stamped to the rear right EMIL VOOS SOLINGEN next to the companies snake and tree stump trade mark which is repeated on its own to the left of the blade. In its original black painted steel scabbard with the correct pattern black leather frog. Not actually designed to fit on a rifle despite the locking catch etc these dress bayonets were private purchase items to be worn mostly by enlisted men and NCO’s of the pre-war Wehrmacht and other pseudo military units while wearing uniform socially, which many did when going out at weekends or evenings during the period of Nazi rule. Blade lengths varied from the ‘short’ 8” examples up to ‘long’ 10” variants. This 9 ¾” blade example by the scarce manufacturer Voos is typical of these dress bayonets and is often referred to as the Engineers or Pioneers pattern. In good condition with clean blade having some scratches to the front 2” or so, very good plastic grips with no chips or cracks in a good scabbard with a nice frog. The blade and hilt retaining much original plated finish with some loss to the pommel. An interesting German dress bayonet of the much less common long variety by one of the rarer makers.
