A pre war Czechoslovakian VZ24 bayonet to fit the VZ24 service rifle by CZ. Hilt with bolt retained wooden grip scales has release catch to the rear right and cross guard with barrel loop to the front. Fullered single edged blade with sharpened edge to the top, copied from the Austrian M1895 bayonet, is struck with CSZ over U to the rear left for manufacture at the CZ plant in BRNO. In its issued blue steel scabbard with frog stud to the front and ball finial to the tip. Typical of the inter war bayonets developed for the various Mauser service rifles adopted across Europe the VZ24 was issued to Czeck troops in this style with the blade edge upper most when fitted to the rifle and widely exported in a conventional edge down configuration. When the Germans invaded early in WW2 most of these bayonets were re worked to fit the German K98 service rifle making these pre war examples scarce today, most on the market being post war examples made by the communist government for issue to their reformed army under Russian rule. In fair to good condition with typical war time usage with a good well marked blade and working catch, worn grip scales and a nice scabbard. A fairly scarce example of a pre war eastern European bayonet.
