German WW2 issue K98 bayonet by E&F Horster and Co. of Solingen dated 1940 in its issue steel scabbard with leather frog. Hilt with ribbed plastic ‘Bakelite’ bolt retained grip scales has release catch to the rear right and Waffenamt WW2 German Army inspection marks to the left side of the pommel. Fullered single edged blued spear point blade is stamped to the rear right with serial number 1577 over l and to the left E.u.F HORSTER with 40 to top of the spine for manufacture in 1940 by the famous Solingen cuttler. In its issue regulation pattern steel scabbard, the front stamped with serial number 887 and to the rear with 43cqh for manufacture in 1943 by Clemen and Jung, C/W its stitched and riveted regulation pattern German WW2 leather frog. Single German army issue Waffenamt to the ball finial. Standard issue bayonet to fit the WW2 German K98 service rifle these were effective weapons both when fitted to the rifle or when used as a fighting knife and saw wide service all over the world as well as on all fronts of the war by the German army from the first campaign in Poland to the fall of Berlin. In very good condition with good grips and working catch, nice clean blade in a good miss matched scabbard (probably a war time replacement) with a nice period frog.
