Imperial German issue Model 1862 bayonet to fit the Dreyse needle fire rifle. Socket with central rotating locking collar is stamped to the left side of the elbow 18 with feint Imperial German regimental marks to the rear. The right side stamped with issue number 6707 and the locking collar struck with two Imperial inspection stamps to the top rear. Slender tri corn blade stamped to the top rear with an Imperial German Army inspection / manufacturers mark. Typical of the socket bayonets used all over the world in the mid Victorian age the M1862 was a well made and reliable weapon well suited to combat utilising a Lovell’s pattern locking ring of the type first seen on the British Pattern 1853 bayonets. In good condition with working locking ring and clear German military markings, a good example of a scarce European issue bayonet.
