A Brazilian issue model 1908/34 sword bayonet to fit the .30-06” Mauser M1908/34 short rifle. Hilt with release catch to the rear right is fitted with rivet retained wooden scales and has a cross guard with hook quillon to the underside. Single edged spear point fullered blade. In its issue steel mounted leather scabbard with frog stud to the rear stamped FI. Manufactured for the Brazilians by CZ of Brno in Czechoslovakia to fit the 1908/34 short rifles converted from 7mm Mauser rifles by the state armoury these long bladed bayonets with a hook to the underside were typical of the interwar period although more modern bayonets on issue around the world were tending to be shorter bladed to act as fighting knives as well as for use in bayonet fighting. In very good condition with good clean blade, working catch and in a nice scabbard with all intact stitching. An interesting Mauser bayonet issued a major South American army during the interwar years.
