A cased WW2 (1942 dated) gunners Clinometer Field MkVI by JMG & Sons Ltd. Black painted steel frame with pivoting spirit level bar graduated in degrees and minutes of angle marked CLINOMETER FIELD MARK VI and to the top JMG & SONS LTD OS 327 G.A. 1942. In its green painted wooden carry case, the lid stamped EG &S 1952. Regulation issue British gunners and artillery clinometer of the WW2 period and many years beyond these were used in the laying of various weapons from large mobile artillery pieces to mortars and even Vickers machine guns when used in the indirect fire support role by using the weapons built in ‘level’ plate to set the precise elevation required to range the weapon on an unseen target using maps and forward observers to hit distant targets. In very good condition retaining most original black paint with perfect mechanics in a nice post war case of correct pattern swapped in service.
