A pair of cased WW1 era pocket size ‘The Duchess’ binoculars by J Taylor of Nottingham to Sergeant T C Everitt of the Royal Fusiliers. Leather covered body with central focus wheel signed to the rear 12 GLASSES and to the eye pieces THE DUCHESS J TAYLOR NOTTINGHAM. In their stitched leather carry case, the lid signed in ink (now faded) Serg T C Everitt 36th Royal Fusiliers, (Sergeant Thomas C Everitt). The 36th (Labour) Battalion The Royal Fusiliers was formed in May 1916 at Falmer in Sussex and mobilised to France in June of 1916. In good condition with working focus and clear image. Lenses would benefit from cleaning, the strap of the case missing and lower half of the closing strap missing. An interesting pair of small private purchase binoculars to a Sergeant of the famous Royal Fusiliers who would have seen action through many of the battles on the Western Front.
