A good WW1 dated US army issue M1897 revolver holster to fit the US Colt .38” service revolver by Graton and Knight. Brown leather with US embossed roundel to the front and 5” wide rivet secured belt loop to fit the US army cartridge belt of the time, the rear of the loop stamped G&K 1917 A.G. for manufacture by Graton and Knight who supplied all of the .38” revolver holsters to the American army during WW1. Brass closing stud to the front and brass ring to the muzzle plug with leather tie down thong in platted form. Designed to be worn on the right hip with the gun being carried butt forward these holsters were widely used by the US army from 1897 right through until the end of the second world war when the venerable .38” Colt revolvers were all finally withdrawn from service. In very good condition with nice clear US and manufacturers markings with good closing stud and correct pattern tie down thong. A nice example of a standard issue US service holster not often found in such good condition.
