A scarce and interesting Russian FS3 ‘Photosniper’ 35mm camera in its issue transit case with accessories. Zenit ES 35mm single lens reflex camera (a Zenit E with additional release button on the base plate actuated by the pistol grip trigger) fitted with a Tair 3 300mm f4.5 lens with pistol grip with shoulder stock in its steel transit case with a Helios-44-2 ‘standard’ 58mm f2 lens. Complete with five 72mm filters (Y-2X, O-2.8X, UV-1X, Y-1.4X and YG-2X), 58mm lens cover threaded to fit the transit case, rear cap, turn screw, plastic oil bottle with dipper and two Russian 35mm reusable film cassettes, all in the fitted steel transit case with label to the outside PHOTO SNIPER. Originally developed as the FS2 in 1943 using a FED camera and wooden stock it was designed for use by the Russian army to take steady observation photo’s using a long 300mm lens. The FS3 using a Zenit SLR camera and steel pistol grip / stock was made between 1965 and 1969 for the civilian market, and sale in the west where it could earn the Russians much needed pounds, dollars and deutschmarks. In very good condition with clear lenses, working shutter and nice stock in its fitted issue case with an original set of accessories. An interesting and rare complete set in good order which appears to be fully functional although not tested with a film.
