A scarce original WW1 era German Mauser leather rifle action cover. Stitched and formed soft leather cover with buckle retrained fixing strap with reinforced hole to accept the rifles bolt. The interior stamped /96 next to an Imperial German army inspection stamp. A very well made cover that gave good protection to the rifle action from mud, dirt and water it was however unlike the British stud retained version for the SMLE very slow to fit and remove making it impractical for use in the front line trenches. In very good condition with intact retaining strap.
